Could your next production use a revolving stage?
The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Tasmania Inc owned a revolve (revolving stage) that was originally built by Jon Bowling for the Society's production of Oliver in 2000.
A major refurbishment and upgrade of the revolve was completed by Jon in 2023. The revolve was used by Encore Theatre Company for its production of The Boy from Oz in October 2023.
The revolve is available for hire to Tasmanian theatre companies. Click here to see a plan showing the dimensions of the revolve.
Any theatre company could use a revolving stage. By automating the set design, your production will that have extra something, a WOW factor. You can add spice to a scene, move from one setting to another or dramatise an effect to give an audience that extra visual surprise.
Feedback from Encore indicated the refurbished revolve performed well and in particular it is easier to setup and dismantle.
Following the windup of the Society, the ownership of the revolve has now moved to Hobart College. Groups wishing to use it need to contact the Hobart College Theatre Manager, Karl Sanger. Groups should email hobart.college@decyp.tas.gov.au regarding their interest in using the revolve and the College’s administration staff will forward the request to Karl.
